London Mayor, Sadiq Khan launched this Monday (10) a campaign to re-attract tourists to the British capital, shortly before the British government lifted much of the coronavirus restrictions across England.
With an investment of almost 8,5 milhões de euros, the campaign intends to encourage domestic tourism to enjoy hotel and restaurant services, as well as culture, nightlife and shopping in the capital. The aim is to boost the sectors that are badly affected by the long months of confinement.
Por enquanto, the ‘invitation’ doesn’t apply to foreigners, due to restrictions still in place for international travel.
Re-elected on Saturday (08) for a second term as mayor, Khan called the initiative the biggest domestic tourism campaign London has ever seen.
– It is about carrying the message, to Londoners and people from all over the country, that our capital is ready to entertain, inspire and enthuse again, afirmou.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will announce the next phase of lifting restrictions, later this week. This stage includes the reopening of hotels, two restaurants internally, museus, cinemas and theaters.
An analysis of the British tourism sector has shown that spending by foreign tourists in central London in 2020 foi 7,4 billion pounds less than the previous year. National tourists, on the other hand, spent about 3,5 billion pounds less.
