From January to March this year, tourism in Madeira has generated 10,6 milhões de euros, registering a break in 57,3 million when compared to the same period last year, ou seja, menos 84,3%, indicate data from the Regional Statistics Directorate (DREM). In the same period last year, the value of income was in the 67,9 milhões de euros.
In the income of the room, the region lost until March 37,9 milhões de euros, passando dos 44,4 million euros for 6,5 milhões de euros, menos 85,2%.
Also according to DREM, in the period under review, overnight stays in the archipelago were 260,6 mil, a decrease of 82%, with declines in the British market (-93,9%), but also from French, German and national tourists with -81,3%, -79,5%, e -52,6%, respectivamente.
Reporting only for the month of March, the data reveal that 40,1% of tourist accommodation establishments in RAM registered movement of guests (41,2% of the total tourist accommodation capacity) This month.
In the month of March, there were 82,1 thousand overnight stays in tourist accommodation, translating a decrease of 75,1% compared to the same month last year, which had already been affected by the pandemic, especially in the second half. It should be noted that excluding local accommodation with less than 10 camas, overnight stays from tourist accommodation showed a decrease of 79,9% for March 2020. Total and room income decreased slightly more than overnight stays (-81,4% e -82,9%, respectivamente).
In the reference month, there were quite significant falls in overnight stays in the main issuing markets. The British market was the one that registered the sharpest decline with -93,1% de dormidas, followed by German with -86,8% and French with -72,3%. The national market recorded a substantially smaller drop, de 9,1%.
The value of the average stay in the month of March decreased compared to the same month last year (4,91 noites), settling in 4,18 noites.
The bed occupancy rate of the tourist accommodation in the month in reference did not exceed the 12,4%, 15,5 percentage points below that observed in the same month last year. Por sua vez, the occupancy-room rate reached only 14,3%.
The month of March 2021 continued to record significantly low values in the RevPar, that hovered around 7,80 euros in all tourist accommodation (excluding local accommodation below 10 camas), -61,9% that in the same month of the previous year. The hotel industry showed a decrease of 62,8%, with a RevPar of 8,14 euros. Por sua vez, the profit per room used (ADR) increased from € 65.48 in March 2020 to € 54.63 in March 2021 (-16,6%).
