ICAO aviation security debate in Lisbon

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO-International Civil Aviation Organization) is leading aviation security regional conferences to increase global awareness and ensure the commitment of States and organizations.

From today and until the day 31 de maio, The Altis Grand Hotel, em Lisboa, receives the Regional Conference on Aviation Safety, with the partnership of the ANAC – National Civil Aviation Authority, to discuss and adopt the "road map" for application to the region of Europe and North Atlantic.

The results of these regional conferences will be presented and discussed at the Second High-level Conference on Aviation Security, the ICAO held in Montreal, Canadá, de 29 a 30 November 2018.

The opening of the Conference, bringing together experts of recognized competence in aviation safety worldwide, is Dr. Pedro Marques, Minister for planning and Infrastructure, Dr. Fang Liu, Secretary General of ICAO, Dr. Luis Ribeiro, President of ANAC and Dr. Luis Fonseca de Almeida, ICAO Regional Director for Europe and North Atlantic.

The invited speakers will present the priority areas of the Global Aviation Safety Plan, as adopted at the seventh meeting of the 212nd session of the Council of ICAO, having regard to the threat and risk environment in rapid evolution, as well as the expected increase in air traffic.

The challenges of aviation security will be another of the themes discussed, focusing on the needs for this region of ICAO, considering the diversity of States that integrate.

Representatives from several countries will also share national security initiatives, arguing the knowledge and the way forward to achieve a useful complementary capacity development in order to promote a cross-cutting and equitable growth of the States of Europe and the North Atlantic Ocean.

To make the commitment to implementation of the Global Aviation Safety Plan in the region of Europe and North Atlantic, will be discussed the "Regional Roadmap", that comes to reaffirm the need to optimize the standards and international aviation security measures, to respond more effectively to emerging threats.
