Luís Araújo is the new president of the European Travel Commission

Luís Araújo was elected president of the European Travel Commission (ETC), position that will occupy the next 4 anos.

In these new functions, the also president of Turismo de Portugal points out a fundamental objective that is make tourism more active within the European Union, through better coordination between the positions of the different member states in favor of tourism across the European space that allow a quick and sustainable recovery of the sector.

And General Meeting #99, held this Tuesday (08), Portugal got 16 votos (entre os 29 express) and now leads a European organization that brings together 33 National Tourism Organizations 31 países, with the objectives of promoting Europe as a tourist destination, share knowledge, market studies and data, as well as being a unique voice for the sector on issues such as visa policy, sustentabilidade, connectivity and work.

With regard to promotion, a ETC, criada em 1948, and the European Commission (CE) established a strategic partnership, in the long run, promoting Europe as the world's leading tourist destination, supporting the sustainable competitive development of the sector through the exchange of knowledge, tourism research and the promotion of socially and environmentally viable models for the activity.

Turismo de Portugal's commitment to innovation and digital, which has been seen as an example at European level, was one of the reasons that most contributed to this national victory. Da mesma forma, the way Portugal has been diversifying its tourism products and boosting tourism throughout the national territory was highly valued. Also the fact that Portugal has managed to achieve the lowest seasonality rate in the entire Mediterranean basin and has managed to register a tourist growth above 60% over the past four years has contributed decisively to victory in this European election.

Por último, this victory is also due to the widespread recognition of the good work of Turismo de Portugal, considered the Best Tourism Organization in the World in recent years, in preparing the sector to successfully face the pandemic crisis we are experiencing.
