Overnight stays in hotel trade have risen 9,6% no 1º semestre

 

Hotel accommodation grew 9,6% in the first half, para 25,3 milhões, mainly due to non-residents, com mais 11,6%, While income rose 18,9%, atingindo 1,4 mil milhões de euros, released now the National Institute of statistics (INE).

In the communiqué of the INE can read that in the first half of 2017 the nights spent by residents increased 4,3% and the non-residents grew 11,6%.

In June, the hotel registered 2,1 milhões de hóspedes e 5,9 milhões de dormidas, corresponding to increases of 8,5% e 8,0%, respetivamente (7,0% e 6,5% in may).

The internal market retreated 0,2% in June, stopping the growing trend (mais 3,8% in may), While external markets accelerated (11,2% face a 7,2% in may).

According to the INE, income continued to increase, com um acréscimo de 18,3%, in similar level to the previous month (18,5%), having reached 350,4 milhões de euros.

The average stay (2,89 noites) decreased 0,5% and the rate of bed places (61,3%) aumentou 3,8 pontos percentuais.

Emitting markets for Portugal with good results

The thirteen major emitters to Portugal markets represented 86,1% of the nights spent by non-residents and had mostly positive results, explains the INE.

O mercado britânico, that represents a quarter of the nights spent by non-residents, grew 4,6% in June, While in the period from January to June rose 5,8%.

The number of German tourists (13,6% do total) the stay in Portuguese hotels grew back, aumentando 14,8% compared to June 2016, a smaller variation that 9% registered in the first months of the year.

Spanish guest accommodation (7% do total) aumentaram 3,8% in June and 4,9% in the first half.

The French market (9,6% do total) presented a reduction of 3,9%, but grew from 4,4% from January to June.

The INE stresses the growths presented in June by the Brazilian markets (55%), American (35%) and Polish (19%), countries that also had increases in the first half of the year.

In the analysis by regions, the INE realize growth of overnights in all, in June, but enhances the performance of the Azores, com mais 18,6%, and the Center, com mais 14%, Although the greater weight of the Algarve, com 38,2%, and the Lisbon Metropolitan area, com 22,4%.

The nights spent by residents descended on the Algarve, with less 4,6%, e em Lisboa, with less 1,7%, compensated by increases of non-residents, particularly in the Algarve (8,6%, ou seja, 41% of the total number of nights spent by guests from abroad).

Also in the first six months of the year, the behavior of the Azores and the Center is highlighted with similar increases to those of June.

The average stay (2,89 noites) reduced 0,5% in June, as in may. In the Algarve, there was an increase of 3%, While the Alentejo was the region that showed the highest decrease (menos 2,6%).

Still the hotel revenue, the INE says that all regions showed increases, with more evidence in the Azores (27,8% in total income) and in the Center (24,3%).

Retirement income over 258 ME

The room has reached the income 258,3 milhões de euros, mais 20,3% than in may.

O rendimento médio por quarto disponível (RevPAR) foi 60,2 euros, reflecting an increase of 19,4% in June, value similar to that registered in may, ascending Lisbon and Algarve 82 euros e 68,6 euros, respetivamente.

In June, the campsites have experienced less 3,6% of campers, getting in 187,8 mil, It provided also less overnight stays (542,4 mil dormidas), mainly due to the breach of 6,3% do mercado interno (68,3% do total), not compensated by the rise of 2,8% of foreigners.

Vacation colonies and youth hostels registered 33,1 mil hóspedes (menos 4,9%), e 62,4 mil dormidas (menos 2,2%), especially in the internal market.
