Cape Verde wants to position itself in the world as a safe destination in terms of health and public health, with a view to recovering international tourist demand. It is the objective of the Cape Verdean prime minister, Ulisses Correia Silva.

– The recovery of the country's economy is extremely demanding given the strong impacts of the pandemic on public finances, companies and people. Neste contexto, it is a national objective to position Cape Verde as a safe country from the point of view of sanitary and public health, alleviate the public debt, increase resilience and diversify the economy, said Ulisses Correia Silva, in Parliament.

By opening the monthly debate in the National Assembly, under the theme of Sustainable Development in Cape Verde, the head of government acknowledged the difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic since March of 2020, affecting tourist demand, that guarantees 25% do Produto Interno Bruto (PIB) and employment in the country.

In the initial intervention before the parliament, Ulisses Correia e Silva also stated that there are signs of economic recovery in Cape Verde, namely the tourist demand, que em 2019 had reached a record of 819 mil turistas.

– Tourism begins to show signs of recovery, the hotels reopened, cruise ships are starting to arrive at our ports and workers are returning, particularly on the tourist islands of Sal and Boavista.. Business and employment protection measures such as the lay-off’ Simplified, the moratoria and the credit lines to support the treasury have been extended and will be withdrawn in a synchronized manner with the recovery of economic activity, guaranteed the head of government, adding that, contrary to expectations, the level of direct foreign direct investment increased, namely in the area of ​​tourism.
