Portugal participates in the 42nd edition of FITUR, the largest tourism fair in the Spanish market and one of the most important in the world, that starts tomorrow (19) and ends the 23 de Janeiro, em Madrid.
Em 2022, national participation is considerably more expressive, counting on the participation of 52 empresas, as 7 tourist regions and Tourism of Portugal.
the national stand, com uma área de 682 metros quadrados, was designed to provide a great visual impact in the fair space, highlighting the '7 suns' that illuminate the dome of the stand, in an allegory to 7 regions, and a decorative element that simulates the waves of the ocean and that embraces the Portuguese companies present.
On the occasion of FITUR, the project “Viagem a Portugal Revisited"that, as part of the celebrations of the Centenary of Saramago, proposes revisiting the itineraries of the author's work and invites contemporary writers to be inspired by these places. On the same occasion, the name of the Spanish writer participating in the project will also be revealed..
The Secretary of State of tourism, Rita Marques, and the President of tourism of Portugal, Luís Araújo, travel to FITUR where, in addition to the visit to the Portugal stand, will meet with companies and the trade and will maintain contact with the main players of the market.
Despite the pandemic context and the reduction in the levels of international demand, em 2020 Spain positioned itself as the 1st tourist market for Portugal measured by the guest indicator, with registration of 763,4 thousand guests that generated 1.686 mil dormidas (3º in this indicator).
Em 2021 the trend continues. According to the latest numbers available, referring to November 2021, the number of guests was 1.058,9 mil (mais 35,7% that in November 2020) and overnight stays amounted to 2.444,5 mil, a value 41,7 % higher than that recorded in November 2020.

Taking advantage of the presence at FITUR and given the close connection to the Spanish market and, Therefore, to Latin American markets, and all the relevant work that Portugal has been developing in these geographies, the Secretary of State for Tourism will be distinguished with the Internationalization Medal, during the XXV Iberoamerican Conference of Ministers and Entrepreneurs of Tourism (CINNAMON), which takes place on the eve of FITUR, at the IFEMA Madrid Auditorium.
