THE REINDEER – Association of Airlines in Portugal recently held its general meeting, its governing bodies having been elected.
Paulo Geisler, representing Lufthansa, was unanimously re-elected to continue to preside over the destinies of RENA.
They were also elected, David Quito, representing Emirates, and Fátima Rodrigues, representing TAAG, for the posts of, respectivamente, Chairman of the General Meeting and Chairman of the Fiscal Council.
The pandemic and recovery issue was the main topic discussed at the aforementioned general assembly, which pointed as an immediate objective the recovery and the consequent need for testing and harmonization of processes.
It should be remembered that the aviation industry and tourism were among the sectors most affected by the pandemic, not only in Portugal but worldwide, going through the biggest crisis ever.
The situation has worsened with the additional restrictions implemented in recent weeks, that are even more severe than at any time 2020.
Assim, RENA insists on the need for testing with the implementation of rapid tests to be carried out at airports.
One of the topics addressed was the increasingly close connection with IATA, airline associations in other countries and other stakeholders. Support measures for the sector were also discussed,, not disturbing competition, enhance the inversion of the path, where the reduction of airport taxes stands out, access to incentive programs by all players in the sector and a clear direction in airport policy.
At this general meeting, a warm farewell was made to the secretary general of RENA, Paco Ayuso.
Carlos Brito, former managing director of Continental Airlines and former chief financial officer of United Airlines has been appointed to the position of general secretary, replacing Paco Ayuso.
