Or president of the European Travel Commission (ETC), Luís Araújo, argued that concern for tourists, residents and workers must be at the center of concerns with regard to the transformation of the tourism sector, towards becoming more sustainable.
Luís Araújo also highlighted the need to increase the sector's resilience, to play an even bigger role in the economies of EU countries, mas, para isso, it is necessary to make funds available.
– The more resilient we are, more sustainable we will be, but we have to put people at the center of our work, said the president of Turismo de Portugal, who participated (sexta-feira) at the High Level Forum on Sustainability and Tourism, promoted under the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, as President of the European Travel Commission (ETC).
Also the secretary general of the European Federation of Food Unions, Agriculture and Tourism (EFFAT) stressed the urge to improve the conditions of tourism workers, namely with increased remuneration. It is necessary to ensure that the social partners in the tourism sector are involved in any agenda for the future of the sector. Let's not make the same mistakes as the past, listen to the workers too, apelou Kristjan Bragason.
During the forum, three panel discussions took place on the qualification of workers in the sector, digital transformation and the environment. Representatives of several relevant entities in tourism participated in those panels., for sharing ideas and presenting proposals that were discussed during the EU Tourism Ministers meeting, which had as its ambition to reach a compromise among all Member States for an Agenda for Tourism 2030-2050.
In the high-level discussion panel, the Secretary of State of tourism, Rita Marques, reiterated the need to involve all Member States in the commitment to an agenda for tourism for 2030-2050, where all lines of action and joint plans with predefined metrics are defined.
No entanto, for a transformation of the tourism sector, said Rita Marques, it is necessary to make funds available to operators, adding that our ambition is huge, but we must have means in place for its execution.
