After an investment of more than 5 million in rehabilitation works, the Convent of Jesus, em Setúbal, reopens doors to the public next day 18 de Maio, coinciding with International Museum Day.
Confirmation was given by the Mayor, Maria das Dores Meira, a publication of Setubal.
The rehabilitation works, that began in 2017, It is divided into 3 phases, They include the full restoration of the interior and facade of the Convent of Jesus, a new garden in Largo de Jesus and redevelopment of the surrounding area. It stands, também, recovery Hornavaque, a section of the old city wall, which will rely on a parking lot for about 200 automobiles.

The Setúbal Chamber took the lead of the rehabilitation process of the Convent of Jesus after the signing of a protocol with the Directorate General of Heritage and Culture (old IGESPAR, IGESPAR), que, by budget inability to carry out the works, gave the beneficiary position of EU candidacy to the municipality Setubal.
Classificado como Monumento Nacional desde 1910, the Convent of Jesus welcomes, since the beginning of the 60 do século XX, Setubal Museum facilities, collection with several art collections, archaeological, historical and documentary of high value, some with an international dimension. These works had as main objective the creation of a local with the necessary characteristics for visitation.
