European Commission and airlines united for digital pass recognition

The European Commission together with the various representatives of international aviation and also with the World Health Organization (OMS), are looking for solutions to make digital free transit recognized abroad. For this very reason, they ask for speed of approval by the co-legislators.

The European Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, during his speech to the European Parliament's Civil Liberties Committee, said that the legislative proposal presented by the Community executive last week concerning the creation of a digital certificate to prove vaccination is at stake, testing or recovery of covid-19. It is a bilingual document with a QR code that should enter into force by June to allow the resumption of free movement in the European Union. (UE).

The European Commissioner also said he was satisfied that the European Parliament had agreed to activate the urgency procedure for a quick analysis of this proposal..

Entretanto, it is known that the Commission's proposal does not state that restrictions should be lifted for people vaccinated or recovered, but ensures that all EU citizens receive the same treatment when Member States decide to lift restrictions on free movement for vaccine holders, recovery or test certificates.

Didier Reynders lamented that some Member States have reintroduced border controls to verify that travelers comply with public health measures, stressing that this free pass should not be a reason to legitimize such border controls.
