Barcelona bans more hotels in the city center

The ‎‎Special Urban Plan for Tourist Accommodation ‎‎(Peuat), recently approved by the municipal council of Barcelona, no longer authorizes the construction of new hotel units or the conversion of old closed guesthouses or unused historic buildings in the more central areas.

The new urban plan ‎‎extends the ban on new hotel‎‎ establishments in the so-called 1 (Old City, Eixample, Gràcia and Poblenou) for a Zone 2, which includes the neighborhoods around Ciutat Vella and Dreta de l’Eixample, as well as Diagonal, Thanks, Baix Guinardó or Sagrada Família.

‎After the decision, the sector regrets that hotel projects are discarded, that can provide added value in closed and abandoned buildings and, ‎‎por outro lado, the modality of shared rooms não é completely prohibited.‎

‎The new document establishes that the regulation or closure of these ‎‎businesses will be established in a future specific ordinance,‎‎ no date yet.

Meanwhile, only the current ban on renting a room for less than 31 days in Barcelona is maintained.

It makes no sense not to allow projects that add value, and continue to authorize tourist housing in apartments, add.‎
