It can be a relief for private companies with tour buses that have had hundreds of these vehicles stopped for several months due to the decrease in tourist demand in Portugal.
Is that the Government announced this Wednesday that the Metropolitan areas of Lisbon and Porto will have 1,5 million euros for the acquisition of transport services from private individuals with a view to strengthening the road and rail supply, which should start next week.
The announcement was made by the Secretary of State for Mobility, Eduardo Pinheiro, during the ceremony on strengthening the supply of public transport in metropolitan areas, held at the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Action, em Lisboa.
Segundo o governante, the objective is to contract road transport vehicles that are not in circulation by private operators, namely tourism or excursions, for the reinforcement of the public transport network. O programa, to which are added the Ministries of Finance and Public Administration, it will last at least 3 meses. The measure will be financed by the Environmental Fund.
In the metropolitan area of Lisbon (AML), there is a maximum of 300 tour buses) that can be used to reinforce the offer of trains and Metro Transportes do Sul. In the Porto Metropolitan Area, there is a maximum of 200 rental buses that can be used. No total, there may be a reinforcement of up to 500 buses in both regions.
