Algarve does not conform to restrictions in Albufeira and Loulé

The presidents of the Algarve Intermunicipal Community (AMAL), António Miguel Pina, and Algarve Tourism, João Fernandes, subscribe to the appeals of the Mayors of Loulé and Albufeira to the Government to review the way in which the number of positive cases of Covid-19 is counted.

Isto porque, in the opinion of the various regional entities, detected national cases should be attributed to the place of residence and not to the destination visited., penalizing the counties most sought after by tourists, especially at this time of year.

António Miguel Pina recalls that the Prime Minister himself clarified that national cases of Covid-19 should be attributed to the municipality where the people reside and not to the place of visit where they are detected, distorting the ratio between the number of positives and the resident population and penalizing the municipalities that receive the most tourists at this time of year, as are the cases of Loulé and Albufeira.

– Given this incongruity in the calculation of ratios, what sense does the announced retreat of the municipalities of Loulé and Albufeira in the process of deconfinement make, reapplying rules in effect in the past, such as the closing of restaurants at 10.30 pm, that will further punish the regional economy at the height of bathing tourism?, interrogates João Fernandes.

The responsible for tourism in the Algarve also says that it is urgent to put an end to the statistical increase in the number of cases, insofar as, in addition to the unfair application of more restrictive measures to municipalities with greater tourist activity, we must also consider the assessment that our external outbound markets make of the Algarve, as the main national destination for summer vacations.

The municipalities of Albufeira and Loulé retreated, na semana passada, in the deconfinement process due to the increased incidence of Covid-19 cases, as announced by Minister Mariana Vieira da Silva, at the press conference after the Council of Ministers.

To Albufeira and Loulé, the rules prior to the current phase are now applied., namely the closing of restaurants and cafes at 10.30 pm and the maintenance of restrictions on sports activities.

The restaurants, coffees and pastries (with a maximum of 6 people inside or 10 on terraces) can be open until 22:30 and cultural shows can also take place until 22:30.

This retreat into distrust, in Albufeira and Loulé, segundo o Governo, is due to the fact that they have, for two consecutive weeks, mais de 120 cases by 100 1000 inhabitants.
