O Instituto Nacional de Estatística (INE) marks a slowdown in the growth rate of tourist accommodation in Portugal in July. Contudo, Algarve the main monthly tourism indicators were positive and reached the target for the first time the mark of three million overnight stays in July (+0,7% than in the same period of the previous year).
In July, foreigners returned to leverage the regional tourism, doing 2,147 milhões de dormidas (+1,4% ou +28 850 non-resident overnight stays), that add up 856 Portuguese thousand overnight stays, totalizando 3,003 million overnight stays.
Segundo o INE, the Algarve recorded 1/3 of overnight stays in the hospitality of Portugal in the first seven months of the year.
Regarding the hospitality segment, the Algarve represented 33,2% of overnight stays from the beginning of the year, seconded by AM Lisboa, com uma quota de 25,5%, according to data of the institute.
At regional level, This indicator shows an increase of 2,7%, para 11,6 million overnight stays in the Algarve hotel in the accumulated period from January to July. Analyzing the accumulated overnight stays from the beginning of the year in tourist accommodation establishments by municipality, five Algarve municipalities - Albufeira, Loulé, Portimão, Lagoa and Tavira - stand out among the ten largest in the country.
As guests and income, monthly destination results are even more significant, with growth of 5,3% the number of guests, para 662 mil, e de 6,5% in total income, para 212,4 milhões de euros. Since the beginning of 2019, the Algarve has accumulated 2,8 milhões de hóspedes (+8,5%) e 644,6 milhões de euros de proveitos totais (+7,6%).
In the month of July, Faro airport moved 1,173 milhões de passageiros, um aumento de 2,2% face ao ano anterior, especially for passengers to and from the UK (+4,1%) and Ireland (+6,1%). In the first seven months 2019, the passenger traffic at Faro airport grew 5,7%, para 5,1 milhões.
