AL of the Azores wants concerted support and until June 2022

The Local Housing Association of the Azores (ALA) defended that the programs to support tourism should be concentrated in a single one, which he calls 'Supporting Tourism in the Azores', and should be in effect at least until June 2022.

In a note sent to Lusa agency, ALA management believes that support programs should include, fully inclusive, an increase for all those whose main activity is focused on tourism, while the same ones that are in progress, and the new ones to implement, must have the full possibility of supporting those who believe in tourism in the region..

ALA proposes the aggregation of all this support with measures designed and created for the real difficulties of the sector, where associations would be involved in its applicability and continuous and constructive analysis.

Regional entrepreneurs in the sector recommend that, given the advent of a new tourism paradigm as a result of the pandemic, the review of the Strategic and Marketing Plan for Tourism in the Azores begins now (PEMTA) and POTRAA – Tourism Planning Program for the Autonomous Region of the Azores. The aim of this review is to “place them in this new reality”, considering that "such instruments are fundamental to define and solidly support the strategy for Azorean tourism in the coming years".

That association once again challenged the Government of the Azores to take a clear and unequivocal position on the eligibility of local accommodation in the next community framework, something that reiterates itself to be of complete justice. “We don't want tourism to become a taboo topic on the regional political agenda, yes we want, openly discuss it with everyone, and may it be led by us Azoreans", complete the ALA grade.
